Director's Message

A Vision Beyond Excellence

It gives me immense pride to share the journey and the vision that guides the MEGHDUUTT FOUNDATION FOR EARLY WARNING AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. As climate uncertainty rises and extreme weather events occur more frequently than ever before, the mission of our organization has never been so pressing. We believe timely, reliable, and community-oriented early weather warnings can save lives, protect livelihoods, and enhance the resilience of the most vulnerable communities.

In the past year, our team has labored ceaselessly, closing the gap between scientific forecasting and grassroots preparedness. By building bridges to local communities, government agencies, and global knowledge networks, the Foundation continues to ensure that the most critical information reaches those who need it most quickly, clearly, and effectively.

But our commitment goes far beyond the issuance of warnings. True resilience is rooted in sustainable development and long-term climate awareness. Whether it be through capacity-building initiatives, climate-smart livelihood programs, or community-led environmental action, the MEGHDUUTT FOUNDATION FOR EARLY WARNING AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT remains committed to empowering people with the knowledge and resources they need-not just to endure the challenges facing them but rather to thrive despite them.

As we look to the future, our priorities remain clear: harnessing the power of technology alongside community knowledge, strengthening early warning ecosystems, and advocating for sustainable solutions that ensure long-term impact. None of this progress would be possible without the trust and support of our partners, volunteers, and the communities we are privileged to serve. Your belief in our mission inspires us to push beyond boundaries and to reimagine what is possible.

Together, we can look forward to a future in which every community—no matter how far-flung—is aware, ready, resistant, and strong.

Thank you for standing with us. –

Her teaching and research focus on climatology, disaster risk communication, environmental management, and community vulnerability reduction. She founded the “Meghdutt” weather and early warning initiative to provide Hypeerlocal Forecasts, real-time forecasts, cyclone and lightning alerts, and simplified interpretations of meteorological information making it gender inclusive and disability friendly. The platform empowers students, journalists, and local communities with the skills needed to interpret weather data and respond proactively to emerging risks. She has also collaborated with the Press Club of Kolkata to develop a disaster reporting manual for journalists, promoting responsible communication and reducing misinformation during extreme events. Dr. Bandyopadhyay’s contributions to disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation have gained international recognition, including her selection as a finalist in the United Nation's WIN DRR Rising Star Women Leadership Awards. She has also represented India at United Nations at panel discussions for DRR summits and conferences. Through academic scholarship, community outreach, and institutional leadership, she continues to champion inclusive, science-based, and community-driven solutions for a safer and more sustainable future.
